Scope of Work
Westcon's responsibilities included:
- Structural Concrete Foundations for storage building slabs, piers, and footings.
- Site Concrete & Hardscape including curbs, gutters, sidewalks, cross gutters, and drive approaches.
- ADA Accessibility Features such as handicap ramps with tactile warning systems.
- Off-Site Improvements at Vecino Way and Calhoun Street, including demolition, re-grading, and reconstruction of curb & gutter, sidewalks, and cross gutters.
- Project Enhancements requested through field work orders and change orders, such as installation of bollards, added base material at crossings, and blockouts for RV parking structures.
Key Challenges & Solutions
1. Scope Adjustments
Several out-of-scope modifications were required during construction, including added bollards, off-site concrete rework, and blockouts for RV parking structures. Westcon's team collaborated closely with the GC and inspector to quickly address these adjustments while minimizing delays.
2. Off-Site Coordination
IID utility work required reconstruction of off-site sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. Westcon managed multiple mobilizations and traffic control coordination, completing the improvements without impacting adjacent properties.
3. Quality & Compliance
All structural concrete was placed with 4,000 PSI mix design, achieving 75--80% strength within 7 days as required. Westcon also ensured ADA accessibility compliance across all ramps and sidewalks.
